Series expansions and applications

Classically, orthonormal bases have been used to represent signals in various Hilbert spaces.

However, it is known that the conditions to an orthonormal basis are very restrictive, so in many cases it is impossible to construct an orthonormal basis that satisfies extra requirements. In the last decade many results have been derived for socalled tight frames that also deliver convenient series expansions.

 

The purpose of the project is to generalize parts of the theory to dual pairs of frames. As concrete manifestations of the theory, the project will deal with either Gabor systems or wavelets.
