The department’s educational mission is to communicate elements of mathematics that are essential for the science of engineering. The bulk of the department’s teaching is the introduction of fundamental mathematical disciplines in the master and bachelor programmes at DTU.

The Department of Mathematics has a central position in the national and international mathematical environment, both by virtue of its research and its teaching. MAT’s research spans from purely theoretical analysis to concrete investigations in a technological context.

Collaboration with industry is conducted within the framework of master thesis projects, externally financed PhD studies, including the Danish industrial PhD programme, and by organizing European Studygroups for Industry (ESGI). Consulting is offered on request from industry.
